Today I travelled to China. My first flight was Amsterdam – Beijing.

I arrived around noon at Beijing Capital Airport. Here you can take the Airport Express that brings you to the subway that can bring you to Beijing Zoo. What is the best solution for a jetlag? Go directly to the pandas!

I went to Beijing Zoo with Susan Tang, who was the Pambassadors contact personal during our adventure last year.

The friendly keeper Liu Her gave us a tour of Beijing Zoo’s Panda Enclosures.

Beijing Zoo has a rich panda history. The zoo started to house pandas in 1955 and over 100 pandas have lived in Beijing since then.

They currently house 9 giant pandas in their 2 Panda Houses.

Beijing’s Pandas have also a big connection with Sports.

For this reason, the 2 Panda Houses are named Asian Games Panda House & Olympic Games Panda House.

The Asian Games Panda House was build in 1990 for the Beijing Asian Games. It has 3 large indoor and 3 large outdoor panda viewing areas. 6 pandas are living at the Asian Games Panda House.

Le Le (female) was born on September 8, 1986 at the Beijing Zoo.
Her mother is Dan Dan and her father is Yin Yin.
She is the mother of Ya Ya of Memphis Zoo.

Gu Gu (male) was born at September 25, 1999 in Wolong.
He moved to Beijing Zoo on October 22, 2004.
His mother is Tang Tang and his father is Pan Pan.

Ying Hua (female) was born at August 17, 2003 in Wolong.
She moved to Beijing Zoo on April 7, 2005.
Her mother is Ying Ying and her father is Ling Ling.

Meng Meng (female) was born at September 13, 2006 in Wolong.
She moved to Beijing Zoo on March 25, 2008.
Her mother is Ying Ying and her father is Ling Ling.

Da Bai Tu (female) was born at July 2, 2010 at Beijing Zoo, but she was transferred to Ya’an Bi Feng Xia right after she was born. She returned to Beijing Zoo on July 8, 2011.
Her mother is Ying Hua.

Xiao Bai Tu (female) was born at August 13, 2010 in Ya’an Bi Feng Xia. She moved to Beijing Zoo on July 8, 2011. Her mother is Ji Ni.

The Olympic Games Panda House was build in 2008 for the Beijing Olympics. It has one really large indoor and 1 large outdoor viewing areas. There is also a panda garden that is not accessible for the public. 3 pandas are living at the Olympic Games Panda House.

Wen Wen (female) was born on August 30, 1982 at Beijing Zoo.
Her mother is Dai Dai and her father is Lo Lo.

Da Di was born on September 22, 1992 at Wolong.
He moved to Beijing Zoo on October 2004.
His mother is Dong Dong and his father is Pan Pan.
He is the father of Tiergarten Schönbrunn / Zoo Vienna’s Yang Yang.

Ji Ni (female) was born on November 4, 1993 at Beijing Zoo.
Her mother is Yong Yong and her father is Liang Liang.

This is the Beijing Zoo Giant Panda Research Center. It was build by Volkswagen so that panda Yan Yan could stay longer in Berlin.

And who recognizes this panda? Yes, it is Baby Ya Ya, who lives now at Memphis Zoo!

And now I will have to get some sleep because I will fly to Changsha early in the morning…

But you can click here to see more pictures of the pandas at Beijing Zoo.
