Belgium & China sign historical panda agreement

The Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang and his Belgian collegue Elio Di Rupo signed an historical agreement for the relations between the two countries on September 11, 2013 in Dalian. A breeding pair of giant pandas is expected to move to Belgium in 2014.

Pairi Daiza in Brugelette will become the home of Hao Hao & Xing Hui for 15 years.

The zoo will celebrate it’s 20th Anniversary next year and is extremely proud to announce that they will have the honour to house Belgium’s panda pair. The agreement is the result of the negotiations of Pairi Daiza’s Panda Team with the China Conservation and Research Centre for the Giant Panda, the China Wildlife Conservation Association and the State Forestry Administration.

Li Qingwen of the State Forestry Administration and Pairi Daiza’s President and Founder, Eric Domb, signed the international panda conservation agreement.

Pairi Daisa will become the second Belgian zoo ever to house a pair of giant pandas.
Wan Wan & Xi Xi lived at the Zoo van Antwerpen in the Summer of 1987.

The female panda Hao Hao (studbook number 741) was born on July 7, 2009 at the Ya’an Bi Feng Xia Base of CCRCGP and lives currently at the Langzhong Panda Paradise. She is a daughter of Hua Mei, the first foreign born panda who returned to her home country, as part of the international panda breeding programme.

The male panda Xing Hui (studbook number 745) was born on July 22, 2009 at the Ya’an Bi Feng Xia Base of CCRCGP and lives currently at the Shanghai Wild Animal Park.

Pairi Daiza started with the construction of their panda house in July 2013.
It will become the master piece of it’s amazing chinese garden.
