Singapore’s panda exhibit was opened on November 29, 2012. The opening of the panda exhibit in Singapore is a sign of the strong diplomatic ties between Singapore and China, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Mr S Iswaran.

He added that for Singapore, it is also significant as it is the first exhibit to open at River Safari, another new tourist attraction that will enhance the country’s appeal.

Mr Iswaran, who is also the Second Minister for Home Affairs and Trade and Industry, was speaking the grand opening of the Giant Panda Forest where pandas Kai Kai and Jia Jia will debut in South East Asia’s largest panda exhibit.

Guests at the opening included China’s ambassador to Singapore, Mr Wei Wei, and former president of Singapore, Mr S R Nathan.

The two pandas from China, Kai Kai and Jia Jia, thrilled hordes of visitors on the opening day of the Giant Panda Forest. They were active, moving playfully around their enclosure, as visitors snapped photographs and filmed every action of the pandas.

Some visitors were at the River Safari before 8am – one hour before the panda’s enclosure opened.
