On March 11, 1869 the French Priest Armand David made the scientific discovery of the giant panda.

The Giant Panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) is a black and white bear native to central- and south-western China. There are about 1864 giant pandas left in the wild and the global captive population has reached 808 individuals in November 2025. China's national treasure, da xiong mao, is loved by so many people around the world.
