November 28, 2010: My second day in Madrid. Hua Zuiba was outside when I arrived at the zoo. She was taking a break from taking care of her cubs. She was walking around the enclosure and eating some bamboo. After an hour she climbed in her favorite tree. The visitors of Zoo Madrid know this tree is her favorite resting spot.

Both cubs were in the incubator. The temperature in the incubator, donated by Dräger, is always around 20° Celsius so the cubs stay warm. 2 staff members of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, Yuan Bo & Chen Min are taking care of the cubs. They stay with the cubs 24/24, 7/7. Panda Keeper Chen Min was doing a checkup on the cubs and showed us these cute guys.

Hua Zuiba finished her nap in the tree and came inside to nurse cub A. The Chinese keepers use Chengdu Panda Base’s famous cub swapping technique to make sure both cubs survived. I’ll tell you more about this in the next days…

Panda dad Bing Xing, who was sleeping and eating inside, moved to the outside enclosure. He enjoyed the sun and of course some bamboo!
