On July 8, 2011 another female panda, Xi Xi (also known as Qian Qian), has given birth to twins at Hetaoping. The first cub was born at 6:55 (sex not yet determined) and the second cub, a healthy female, weighing 83 grams (just under 3 oz) born at 8:04 was removed immediately by the keepers. The father of Xi Xi’s cubs is Wu Gang, a wild born male who is also the father of Su Lin’s cubs.
Xi Xi, also known as the “run away bride” because of three previous escaping attempts, is an experienced mother; she had one male cub in 2004 (Rong Rong) and a female cub in 2005 (Ying Ying) and twins, two females (Mei QIn & Mei Xin), in 2006. Her daughter Ying Ying now lives at the Ocean Park in Hong Kong and might have cubs of her own this year.
