Qing Qing had her first estrus this year at the Ya’an Bi Feng Xia Base of CCRCGP.

Qing Qing was born on February 23, 2007 after the world’s longest gestation for a giant panda (324 days). Her mother Ji Ni was 14 years old and it was her first birth.

Wu Gang and Lu Lu, both wild born were chosen as potential mating partner for Qing Qing based on genetic relationships, physical fitness, temperaments, and other factors.

First she spend sopme time with Wu Gang, but she was more interested in playing than mating and despite attempts by Wu Gang, natural mating did not occur. (picture) Qing Qing was later put in contact with Lu Lu, but mating didn’t happen with him either.

Because the window of best time for conception was closing artificial insemination of Qing Qing was done with frozen semen from Lu Lu on April 4 and again on April 5, 2012.
