No panda has ever done this before, but Bao Bao will write history. On November 5, 1980 he arrived in Berlin with Tjen Tjen. On November 5, 2010 he will live for 30 years outside of China. Bao Bao is the oldest male panda in captivity and the oldest panda outside of China. We would like to congratulate Bao Bao and thank everybody who has taken care of him! I have visited Bao Bao many times and I know Detlev Liebschwager and the other keepers do a great job, just like Lutz Stormer did before! I will visit Bao Bao on this special day and even the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding couldn’t forget a special occasion like this. I will give a small gesture from Dr. Zhang Zhihe, director of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, to Zoo Berlin.
