Cheng Gong gave birth to twins at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding on July 23, 2013.
The first the cub did not cry and staff were on edge, but Cheng Gong expertly licked off the amniotic fluid, scooped up the cub in her mouth, and brought it to her chest and the cub began squealing. Fifteen minutes later the second cub was born. Cheng Gong tried to pick it up, but the experienced staff realized she would not be able to do so and one of the vets retrieved the cub and took it to the nursery.
